Scrum is a project management framework for completing complex projects. It is also a new way to build high performing teams, a new way to build high value products, and a new way to enjoy your work, while getting better at it.

Scrum has a few simple rules and practices. They are simple and easy to understand, but difficult to master. So, if you want to know what Scrum is all about, here's a list of free resources to get you started.

1: Watch introductory animation videos

Michael James has created an excellent series of free introductory animation videos and has posted them on scrumtrainingseries.com. Watch them all (they are short and sweet), and try answering the quizzes. If you have time, browse though the FAQ section you will find on the same page, below the videos.

Time investment: 2-4 hours

2. Read the Scrum Guide

The Scrum Guide is the "Bible" of Scrum. Unlike other project management framework guides, it is very short (18 pages including the covers). It's a pretty dense document (every word counts), so you should take you time with it. Read a few pages, let it settle and read them again. After you finish it, keep is as reference. You can find the Scrum Guide here

Time investment: 3-6 hours.

3. Read "Scrum and XP from the trenches"

Henrik Kniberg wrote this book while applying Scrum and eXtreme Programming practices within a company. "Scrum and XP from the trenches" is short, extremely readable and full of realistic work patterns and real life examples. Essentially, it's like a "how-to" guide for new Scrum teams. It's also free. You can find it here.

Time investment: 6-10 hours.

4. Enroll in a Scrum course

This is not a free resource, but if you decide to get serious about using Scrum, do not skip it. There are plenty of choices out there, so please choose wisely (your criteria might include Agile project experience, training experience, and level of involvement with the Agile community).

If you choose Agile For Value for your Scrum training, please find the details of our next Scrum for Value course here.

Time investment: 2 days

I believe these resources will guide you though your first steps of your Agile journey. Happy reading...
